SAN DIEGO, Calif., October 16, 2009 -- The US Food and Drug
Administration has asked the US Navy for analysis of the quality
of life of pilots after Lasik. The study - including elite
Top Gun pilots - is part of a larger re-evaluation
of the popular laser eye surgery that will include an FDA
website for patients to report results and a clinical study
conducted by the National Institutes of Health.
The study to determine pilots' quality of life after Lasik,
which is short for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, will
be conducted by Capt. David J. Tanzer, MD of the Naval Medical
Center in San Diego and is expected to be completed sometime in
2010.
