Not every Lasik surgeon has been certified by USAEyes. |

One of the Best
Doctors certified by the Council for Refractive
Surgery Quality Assurance (USAEyes) not only must pass initial assessment,
but also continue to be periodically evaluated and recertified. You
can be confident that a USAEyes Certified Lasik Doctor is
one of the best refractive surgeons available.
A Difficult and Ongoing Evaluation Process
It is not easy to become a USAEyes certified surgeon -
fewer than 250 doctors nationwide have attained and maintain
USAEyes certification. A doctor seeking certification must
submit to close scrutiny. It is not any easier remaining a
USAEyes certified Lasik doctor either. After initial certification,
the surgeon is re-evaluated every three months. Learn about the certification process.
Under A Microscope
With the acceptance of a doctor's application, USAEyes verifies the doctors credentials including personal
history, professional history, license to practice, hospital
privileges, US Drug Enforcement Administration certification,
specialty board certification, residency completion, schooling,
malpractice insurance claims history, National Physician
Database history, Federation of State Medical Boards
disciplinary history, sanctions against licensure, Medicaid
sanctions, Medicare sanctions, professional references, and more. Any patient
complaints submitted to USAEyes's are evaluated
and considered.
Must Have Satisfactory Performance History
If the doctor's credentials are satisfactory, the unique
USAEyes Competence Opinion Relative to Expectation (CORE)
survey is distributed to prior patients. The survey results must
be within the 90th percentile of the surgeon's peers, and key
questions must have at least a 90% neutral to positive response.
Only after all these requirements have been met can a doctor
become a certified.
USAEyes recognizes the validity of other certification
organizations. If a doctor has been evaluated and certified by
the International Society for Refractive Surgery's GLORY program
or is Lasik certified by the American Board of Eye Surgery,
CRSQA accepts these certifications as evidence of proficiency
and does not require the initial outcomes data evaluation,
however quarterly and regular evaluations are unchanged.
Certification May Be Withdrawn
In the event a USAEyes certified Lasik doctor is found
to be providing unsatisfactory refractive surgery outcomes or
otherwise falls outside of required standards, the doctor will
have certification withdrawn (after due process, of course).
Certified - Not Perfect
There is no such thing as a perfect surgeon, perfect surgery,
or even the perfect patient. The very best Lasik doctors will have
undesired outcomes. Even mediocre Lasik doctors are likely to get
it right most of the time. There are no guarantees in surgery,
but USAEyes certification is an important indication
of the quality of a potential doctor, in addition to other Lasik doctor certifications.
