Small
Eyes, High Cheekbones and
Lasik, Bladeless Lasik, PRK, etc.
The reason high cheek bones
and small eyes may be a contraindication for
Lasik,
Bladeless Lasik, or
Epi-Lasik is because the suction ring that affixes to the eye
and holds the
microkeratome may not fit very well. If it is difficult to get
the ring onto the eye globe, suction may be lost and an incomplete,
shallow, or
buttonhole flap may occur. People of Asian and American Indian
heritage are especially prone to having this problem. The doctor
may be able to use a smaller microkeratome. It may be that a different
type of refractive surgery technique like
PRK or
LASEK may be recommended. Small eyes and high cheekbones
would not normally be a problem for
P-IOL, or
RLE.
If you are ready
to choose a doctor to be evaluated for Lasik or any refractive
surgery procedure, we highly recommend you consider a doctor who
has been evaluated and certified by the USAEyes nonprofit
organization.
